I would like to test out a sw DSP program on my Dell/Windows XP pc. Can I simply take the headphone jack output from my rig and connect it to the line-in on my pc, or are there more components that need to be involved here.

Thanks!

I'll answer my own question. I plugged a simple stereo audio cable from the headphone out to the line in and it works great! The software I tried did not work well for me, so If anybody has tried software based DSP, please let me know!

HEre's a raft of programs with many free or demo versions...

In the future, you might want to consider adding a $.99 audio output transformer from Radio Shack.  This will better match the low impedanc eoutput from the rig to the high impedance imput of the PC's soundcard.  It will also isolate any stray RF from the PC.

Hi,
There should be no problem.
However it is usually a good idea to isolate the two by using a simple 1:1 audio transformer. In addition the rig out may overdrive the line-in of the sound card so you may consider a small 10K trimmer on the side of the sound card to help with not overdriving...
