Hey guys I was wondering what everyone uses for the 857 made by Yaesu?

I also would like the program to be able to encode text to CW and Decode CW to text while I am still learning CW. I believe this will help me get a sense for what words should sound like if that makes sense.

Now I know some would frown on that style of CW but I'm learning, but I don't want that fact to hold me back from enjoying CW.

Thanks and 73's
David

Try CWget and CWType.  CWGET is Shareware with a very reasonable registration fee, CWType is freeware.  SEtup is a snap, and the functionality is tops.  You will need a soundcard interface, and depending on which one you have or choose, you may need a keying adapter. For that, check out W1GEE.

For encoding from keyboard to cw there are many programs look at cw software section of AC6V.com.

Cwget works well but is not free.  Hamscope has a cw decode mode that works on strong well sent CW.  It is not very good in noise or poor fist modes though.

The best way is by ear.  Learn by sending code to yourself via the encode programs.  Practice regularly and push yourself on speed.  Then test yourself with off the air copy.  If you keep at it, one day you will start copying.
