Some of these can be funny.  But sometimes they're real.  It's difficult to tell.

I got a response to one of my ads about two years ago from a guy saying he was in Romania (no callsign).  Would I be willing to accept payment via Western Union, and ship overseas?

I said, "Sure, if you pay the shipping and I have the money from W.U. in hand before I make the shipment."  Just in case it was "real," I went to FedEx and got a quote on FedEx International shipment from their depot to his address in Romania.  It was about $75 (for a small 2m mobile rig).  I added that to the price and said I'd wait for the wired money.

Sure enough, two days later, the money was there at W.U. for me to pick up (cash)!

I made the shipment and that was that.

Frankly, I thought that was a scam until I had the money in my hand.

    I got hit by Jerry and Doreen Floyd ( jerryfloyd00@gmail.com ) 

I posted an add in the wanted section then only a matter of an hour or 2 I was asked if I still required the items I had listed and i responded yes and i need a a power supply gave the details and like lighting i get a reply that he has the PSU and its in new condition , sorry no photo and its ready to ship with tracking number please pay by Western Union or Money Gram ( not from ZL ) cost to much then he said shipping by Fedex or  UPS ( most expensive ) gave me the following address

Kept responding with how good he is and he won't rip me off then tonght he rang me from the UK twice , this then really got the red lights flashing.. So I did a few searches

So this confirms it for me as a scam, so I informed the Internet section of the FBI,

It appears they scan the whole message and try and put it in the subject line..

They never offer an item this one claims he still has and item to offer

Update on Jerry Floyd :

Jerry rang again tonite at about 07-30 UTC i asked a few questions
and said that I have found his name and email listed as a scammer
the phone went dead and about 2 minutes later an email arrived..

Yes Dave I agree but, to blatantly supply a false address and misleading information claiming you have these items is out right lies !!! Nobody has any of thes modules from a 960 ..

When was the last time you had someone wanting to sell you something, ring you from half way around the world, before you had made up your mind and insist on Western union payments and UPS or Fedex shipping ??

The 702 after the UK Country Code (44) is
a telephone routing redirect to another location. These phone redirects
are also often used by Nigerian 419 (Advanced Fee) Scammers
pretending to be in the UK, but answering the phone
in Lagos.

Beware of anyone offering to send "their shipping
company" to pickup the merchandise, and of course
the old overpayment scam. (He sends you $2,5000
for a $400 rig and asks you to deposit the extra, wait
for it to clear (see remarks below) and send the extra
to a sick relative. He says you may take $100 out for your
trouble. Also, it is usually obvious the buyer is NOT a ham, and usually
refers to your goods as "The item" or "your items" instead
of "RS-232 Interface for a Kenwood TS-940, rare".

Remember: Just because a check has "cleared" and
the money is showing in your account, this DOES NOT MEAN
THE CHECK YOU WERE GIVEN IS GOOD!!   It's not really
over with until the check is "Paid" or "Honored". Banks
use clearing houses to facilitate the wheels of commerce.
When you endorse the back of that cashier's check, the bank is in effect
"loaning" you the money until the check is paid.
The bank has up to a YEAR to come back to you
and prove the draft (check, money order, etc) was bad and
YOU are liable for the funds. No ifs, ands or buts accepted.

There are some awfully good counterfeit Certified and Cashiers checks
out there, especially coming out of Romania. (Though drawn
on U.S. Financial Institutions such as Credit Unions.)
