I am looking at buying a kenwood ts-50 that is being sold for parts or repair (dirt cheap). The problem is described as "common" ...the pll goes out of lock 20 meters and above. Can anyone tell me more about this "common problem" so that i can determine if i am qualified to deal with it. I am hoping its just a vco adjustment or something simple and not a major job.

thanks for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated...rich n3kvn

It's not "common". Sometimes but rarely is it adjustment. Most likely a component failed and they are all surface mount. If you can work with surface mount parts it shouldn't be a problem.
