I've noticed over the last 12 hours or so, that the site is getting very slow! This post took 189.6 seconds to load.

Here's the hang...

It's fine this morning. I appears it was waiting for images, because once it got past the normal_post.gif, it loaded fine.

Well, it was slow here just trying to load admin pages that have nothing to do with SMF (the forums) nor do they have any graphics.

Oddly enough, it's been slow this morning too, at least in completing posts. For some add reason, it's hesitating at the same spot it did before. Perhaps this is a google ad problem.

This is where it stumbles:

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-3578795250616585&format=120x600_as&output=html&h=600&w=120&lmt=1281457115&channel=1454052615&ad_type=text_image&color_bg=FDEFD2&color_border=FDEFD2&color_link=0000CC&color_text=000000&color_url=008000&flash=10.0.45&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eham.net%2Fehamforum%2Fsmf%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Dpost%3Bmsg%3D465212%3Btopic%3D70019.0%3Bsesc%3Db7f9d31350c8400ce0615cfeece7aa5e&dt=1281457117529&shv=r20100728&correlator=1281457117530&frm=0&adk=3136518389&ga_vid=1221867910.1281457118&ga_sid=1281457118&ga_hid=331866671&ga_fc=0&u_tz=-360&u_his=21&u_java=1&u_h=1440&u_w=2560&u_ah=1367&u_aw=2560&u_cd=24&u_nplug=10&u_nmime=123&biw=1590&bih=1146&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eham.net%2Fehamforum%2Fsmf%2Findex.php%2Ftopic%2C70019.0.html&fu=2&ifi=1&dtd=27&xpc=7vQ68b91xb&p=http%3A//www.eham.net

And, I keep getting this error this morning as well:

: MySQL server has gone away

I got to see it acting up today.

Based on what I see I do not think it is a google ad issue.

Thanks

One more addition.

I don't use Google's search engine as I don't like the ads. But I've noticed on those site that do (www.w8ji.com is an example), the loading has been slow during the same time periods. Can't say it is caused by the same "bug", but it might be.

This site is slow again today. Whatever comes after this: http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js is causing the problem. On three occasions, the error message said the SMF (whatever that is) couldn't open the file. Again, I think this is a google ad problem.

SMF is the forum software.  Can you remember more of what the error meager said.  Was it that smf was not able to connect to the database?

Thanks

If it happens again, I'll do a screen capture, and e-mail it to you.

George, it stuck at ≈12:10 MDT, exactly at the same place it did before. I didn't get an error this time, however. I watched it closely this time, and it is indeed sticking on the doubleclick.net site. I even tried to brig the site up directly in a second page, but no luck. After about 90 seconds, it sprang to life the same time eham did. I don't know if this will help you or not.

Some background. Some years ago, when I was with Qwest DEX's internet group, we had similar problems with doubleclick.net, before Google bought them. Unfortunately, I don't remember the details, or how it was solved.

mmmmm... The slowness that I have been noticing and trying to solve is with the database
and should not be affected by external sites like google.

I think i need to look at how we are loading those ad since it really should not block the rest of the page from loading.

Thanks

It looks like I figured out what was causing some high loads on our database that in turn causing our pages to load slowly during peak usage.  It looks much better now.  Glad to finally track that one down - now off to the next issue.

This morning I clicked on this ad: http://www.fossil.com/en_US/shop/fossil-watches.html?N=0&cm_mmc=goo2-_-Banners-_-Homepage-_-Banners1115&cm_mmca1=120x600&PSID=GOOSHOPDSPLY&gclid=COHwzbXLtKUCFQu87Qodgn67ZA

It just sat there. I looked at the activity window, and guess where it hung up: google-analytics!
