Hello all,

For enjoyment, and mostly out of boredom, I've created a dead simple USA ham radio callsign lookup service named Callook. You can check it out at http://callook.info.

Callook's distinguishing features:

    * Looks up RACES callsigns that may not be in other databases (for example, WC4AAS)
    * Has a text-only mode that is script/external application friendly
    * Has a browser search plugin
    * No ads, unlike other lookup sites I've seen
    * Updated daily at 8:05 AM EST

I'm obviously not trying to make money with this...I just made it for fun.

It should be noted that I purposely didn't implement lookup count in Callook, but if that's a feature that people really want, I can add it easily.

Let me know what you think, or if you find any problems with Callook!

I just added these features to http://callook.info based on suggestions at the QRZ forums:

* Latitude/Longitude data
* XML Output

Enjoy!

I use FireFox and I really like the search engine plugin feature.  I think I am going to take off the other call sign lookup.  How hard would it be to have this incorporated into logging software?

W0ZS, thanks for your compliments!

In theory, Callook would be easy to integrate into logging software (especially because of its XML and plaintext output options,) but you'd have to ask the makers of the logging software.

Joshua, I've been working on my own open source, Java based logging application on my spare time for the past year.  One thing that I've always wanted to add was a callsign lookup and your xml format was exactly what I've been looking for.  I hope you don't mind, but I've added that capability to my latest release using your website.  I gave you credit, so let me know if there are any issues or if you want me to remove the code.

Hello,

I'm flattered that you chose to use Callook for your application! That's not only a fair use of the service; that type of use is encouraged. Just know that since Callook is a free service, its uptime is not guaranteed. Also, if new features are added to Callook, its XML elements may change, potentially without notice.

Glad you like it!

UPDATE: The Callook.info Google Gadget now displays lookup results inside the gadget, rather than in a new window/tab, making it much easier to use.

Enjoy!

I really like it. I think it is a great lookup and congratulations on a job well done.

I noticed one thing, the grid square isn't correct on my callsign and the other local ham's callsigns.

My grid is FN01qw but on Callook it is FN01pw.

Other than that minor flaw, it is a wonderful lookup service.

Great job,
Tyler
