This list may be of interest to some, but I would think very few.  That is evident by the replies.  What, may I ask, was your point in posting this?  If an organization does a good job--whether or not it has tax-exempt status--I would think it would get support from most.

Sometimes the loss of such status is just an indication that the organization has income from sources other than donations or interest income.  I know of one such club that had to change their status once they leased out a cell phone tower site and started getting over $2K a month in income from that.

Changes made three years ago to the federal tax laws could cause many radio clubs to lose their tax-exempt status this year. Clubs that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code must file the required IRS annual returns or reports before the deadline, which is May 15 for those with calendar years.

“Many clubs have, at some time in the past, applied for tax-exempt status as charitable organizations under Section 501(c)(3), as civic leagues under Section 501(c)(4) or as recreational clubs using Section 501(c)(7),” said ARRL Southwestern Division Director Marty Woll, N6VI. “Years ago, any club with gross receipts averaging less than $25,000 per year was not required to file annual returns with the IRS; however, after 2006, such clubs had to file a Form 990-N, a simple ‘electronic postcard’ with minimal information, by the 15th day of the fifth month after the close of each fiscal year. Some clubs may not have been aware of this new requirement or didn’t bother to comply. Even those that filed in a prior year may have neglected to keep up with the required filings as officers changed from year to year.”

This from another website warning for non-profits,not necessarly for amateur radio clubs:


"Time is running out for small nonprofits facing loss of tax-exempt status because they have not filed Form 990-N or Form 990-EZ for three consecutive years. The deadline for the IRS’s one-time filing relief program is October 15, 2010. After that, nonprofits that are required to file a 990 and whose filings are at least three years in arrears will automatically lose their exemptions. To regain tax-exempt status, they will have to apply to the IRS all over again, a process that can take several months and requires payment of fees.”

Everyone should be advised to check the status of their club in this matter. Many clubs are still unaware of the IRS changes.

And so to my original statement.  This list may be of interest to some--But very few.  I would be surprised if this news found its way back to those clubs because of this listing.  AND--this is about TWO states only!  Far better if a letter was written to each of those clubs to advise them of this--at least they would see the letter!
