I guess when you get to my age (66) you start reminiscing a bit but it seems that the first place I go in the new QST is always the "silent keys"...  only occasionally do I see someone I knew.  However, I always feel the need to look because I know that within the "fraternity" of hams, no matter who it is that has died, we have all lost someone who we probably would have liked.  That is one of the beauties of ham radio.

The short of it is that in the December 2010 issue I noticed the call: K7MCA... a Fern Fletcher.  It struck a note in the old memory banks and so I dug out the logbook and sure enough, on 5/27/1960 I had logged a contact with her on 3.735 mc at 4:30 pm... she was 489 and I was 599 with 75 watts output at my end (my old Heatkit).  Her call then was KN7MCA and she was the third woman on the first page of my log.  Even then I was surprised to have made contact with so may lady hams...  maybe just luck. She was my 7th contact for me as a new novice, KN7MDO.

I would very much like to send a note of sympathy to her family if for no other reason than to thank them for thinking of the ham community by posting to all of us of her passing.

My only problem is that she has already been deleted form the FCC database.  Is there anyone out there with her Hoquiam, WA Address?  I have her Aberdeen address from 1960 but that is no longer valid.

Well I am on the last page of my original log.  My first contact was KN7LNV (Edith Suing, Lebanon Oregon, CW) on 5/21/1960.  Just logged my first contact on the last page as UA0ZK (Vasily Koshman, Yelizovo Russia on 10/23/2010, PSK31). Its been a great hobby!

I've still got 29 lines open on that last page....
