I have always wondered about the contest results for stations who make lots of posts on DX Summit during the contest. Isn't that considered the "assisted" mode or is it only "assisted" if you USE someone else's spots? I see all the contest superstations posting the spots and I also see lots of spots being posted for those contest superstations as well. -- If I then see these stations listed in the "unassisted" category results, I am a bit confused as to what's going on. Anyone able to help me on this? Thanks.

Yes it is fine to make spots, yet claim unassisted. It is not OK, obviously, to receive those spots and claim unassisted. Computer logging programs can operate so that one may post spots as one operates, yet not see any spots on the screen.

In the "old days" packet networks were quite regional and folks who wanted to operate unassisted were urged to do so, but still post spots for the good of their club. With worldwide networks now, it seems a bit moot.

Not sure if you were referring to multi-operator stations - they are ALL allowed to use spots with no special "assisted" category.
