Purchased a W4 off of you know where.  Excellent shape physically, even has the inspection tag on it still.  However, DOA.   Meter movement is not stuck as it moves freely.   Where do I look first?

Check to make sure the meter movement is not open.  Check the diodes.  Check for modifications or butchering.  Check the connecting cable between the ""sending unit" and the meter.

Does the meter work in any range either fwd or reverse?  If not, the meter coil is probably open circuit.

My guess is that one of the wires is broken in the connecting cable either in the meter case or the in-line unit.   This would be the most obvious place to look initially.

If it was a diode problem, it would probably only be one, and that would only affect either forward or reverse.

Thanks everyone.  It does appear to be the gray connecting cable between the sensor unit and the meter.   When extended to operate "remotely," it seems to operate intermittently.

Any more info?  Did you fix it?
