Had my first CW contact with Wyoming this morning, and wondered---What exactly is the ham population of that state.

the FCC website is your best bet. Just search it with WY in the "state" box.  Of course you will get recently deceased HAMS, who have not been removed, and a few (probably very few) Club Licenses, etc.  You may have to manually parse your list to purge "Expired" calls as well. But I think that will be your best bet.  Next would be QRZ... (again with the search for Wyoming or WY)

Maybe that should be a Question the Census should ask..."Any Amateur Radio operators living here?"

Found the answer---1614 Amateur Radio Operators in Wyoming---understanding that it is not a 'definitive' number, but nevertheless---few enough to consider a contact nearly 'exotic' from this end---interesting!

Not many hams in Wyoming, it's one of the rare ones. 
In my quest for WAS, Wyoming was one of the last ones I got
If you need the QSL, I suggest you get it before either of you forgets.

Other rare states are Delaware, West Virginia and either Vermont or New Hampshire (I forget which).

Hello from Wyoming LOL!!

We like to figure somewhere about 1500 hams in the state. 

You can figure maybe 500 are not active at all and are totally out of the hobby/SK/ETC.

500ish are tech class and don't access HF.

Of the remaining 500, I would guess that 300 of them MAYBE get on HF 1 or 2 times every 6 months.

100 of them only get onto 80 meters for the statewide net.

Another 50 might operate HF 1 or 2 times every month.

Maybe 50 operate HF 1 time a week or more (on a good week) 

I know that I am in Casper (The largest city in Wyoming) and I can only come up with 3 hams who are active on HF weekly (not including the 80 meter net).

I myself operate anywhere from 20-40 hours a week on HF and I am locally considered kinda' the "HF guy".

So we Wyoming hams are out here, but usually very few and far between.

26 Novices
779 Technicians
430 Generals
155 Advanceds
312 Extras

for a total of 1702 hams.
