Other than the word "construscts" I didn't understand this at all. Maybe you are thinking about an "interocter"? You can order these directly from the mother ship.

Didn't the ancient Greeks do something like that to defeat an attacking naval force?

Mythbusters recreated this on an episiode last year, and it was a dismal failure. This guy's Death Ray has a pretty short focal length!

It looked like a sattelite tv dish parabolic with alot of mirrors attached. Those parabolics focus at the rf amp thingy, short indeed.

I'm sure it's real. A dish that size will collect something like 500W of light. Focused down to a half inch spot, that's plenty to light stuff on fire, burn through aluminum cans, etc.
It'd be even more impressive if he got the focus tighter.

mythbusters tried this TWICE the 2nd time on an absolutely massive scale and it wasn't a failure as such.. but it really didn't live up to expectations.. they said it was 'warm' standing in front of it.. but not enough to make a person want to turn and run.

hahaha yeah. .that's the one!! it does make you wonder tho.. if you had a way to ACCURATELY focus that many mirrors.. their sight-aiming system was pretty slick.. but how still can a human actually hold a mirror?

I suppose it could still be possible, but I don't see how.
Look at Mythbuster's burnout-on-fire test. They did burnouts with gasmasks on in pools of gasoline and failed to get ignition, but there are many youtube videos of people exploding their tires into donuts of flame.

yeah some of what mythbuster's do is not accurate.. I've personally seen tired burst into flame doing a burnout. i've also noticed that when it involves things that aren't necessarily legal, they dance around things that could make it confirmed. like the episode on avoiding police radar guns.. It's very easily done. As Hams I'm sure you are familiar with the process of 'stepping' on top of a smaller signal....

The worst are gun myths, although they've gotten better.
These tracers are ILLEGAL! This gun is ILLEGAL!
Yeah, in your one state out of 50.
