Contesting is like any other facet of amateur radio; it should be “fun” for you and other amateur radio operators you encounter along the way.  Respect others as you wish to be respected.  Be polite and courteous to others and dispose of the rude and nasty comments.  You can be polite and still get the job done quickly.  There’s no financial reward from winning a contest, just fun.   The use of phrases such as “go away and shut-up” like many others is not excusable.  If you can’t be polite to others, then maybe you should take up another hobby like knitting or crocheting.  Demonstrate that amateur radio operators are a cut above the rest.   Remember, “Open your mind before you open your mouth”!

Pretty much the reason I've gone to mostly CW and RTTY contesting. For the most part, it takes most of us too long to cuss someone out on CW  Grin  and most CW ops are more courtious than to stoop that low anyway although in many DX pileups, I do hear a lot of 'UP' 'UP' and occasionally an 'IDIOT' thrown in the mix.

The saying 'ignore them and they go away' usually works to some extent but there are those diehards that will hang around forever to get the last word in no matter what.
