On May 14, 2011, the Williamsburg Area Amateur Radio Club (K4RC) will hold the first of their "Historical Triangle" special events. This event will be on historic Jamestown Island, the site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Jamestown was established by the English in May of 1607, and served as the colonial capital until 1699. By then, the population had outgrown the island and the capital was moved to "Middle Plantation" a few miles inland. The new city was called Williamsburg, after King William. The capital remained here until Governor Thomas Jefferson moved the capital to Richmond to prevent it being over run by the British during the Revolutionary War.
We will be on the air around 10:00AM (EDT) [1400 UTC] and will operate until 4:30PM (EDT) [2050 UTC]. Send QSL cards to our QSL Manager, Steve Flester (KG4SMV). Our info is good on QRZ, please note: DO NOT SEND QSL CARDS TO THE CLUB PO BOX, use the QSL Manager. We also upload our logs to LOTW.
The club will operate two more events this summer, one in Colonial Williamsburg around the 4th of July, and one at the Yorktown Battlefield in October, site of the Battle of Yorktown, ending the Revolutionary War, and securing our Independence form Great Britain. If you work ALL THREE of these events, you may contact our QSL Manager to request a Certificate listing all three contacts. The contacts do not have to be in the same year.
