I built a 2 Meter J Pole but looking around on line I have a question about where to place the coax connector. I've seen the connector mounted on both the long element and the short element. What would the difference be?

There's really no difference on which element the coax connector is mounted. One side of the coax connector is wired to one element and the other side is wired to the other element. If you had big wires, you could hang the coax connector 1/2 way between the elements and it would work the same way.

Thanks Cecil, nice Road King., I have an 06 that my girlfriend likes better than the 1980 FLH but I like the 80 better.

I always first ask which way they did the connection, then tell 'em it should be the other way 'round....

I used worm clamps on mine. No connector at all (aka cheap)
