They cheapest way to deal with this situation is to wait for the light to turn green, and then slowly push the pedal on the right.
A fine suggestion, and I can hardly fault it, but I cannot do it. The fault is entirely mine: I purchased a home with no accelerator pedal. Adding one will do no good: the builder, no doubt to cut costs, seems to have left out the wheels, drive train, and engine as well.
