The HW-100 doesn't do that. Neither does the HW-101.

Both rigs generate CW by switching to a carrier crystal (Y3) that's in the IF passband and unbalancing the balanced modulator.

JX:  The only thing I really crave is to operate split.  I find the limited split on the 830 very frustrating at times.

I have the external Digital VFO for mine (VFO-230) that let you do full splits if you want to as long as they are in band. 230 is VERY stable too.

Just to follow up on what I decided. Purchased a FT-900 from N1ST. Excellent filtering on CW, cool digital readout,
options galore and this one is from 1995! Extremely easy to manuever. Still keeping the old HW-100 for nostalgia.
