I believe watching QSOs with CW on bands is the best way to improve reception ability. Computer programs are also sometimes handy. But P/C is not a humen. Watching real QSOs is to listen to the other's conversation and is  always very interesting. Of course, you should be patient copying those QSOs for a while. In a few weeks, you will find the windows open to hams all over the world and sure will be facinated by this mode.

I'm also learning code.  My father was a code operator in the Army.  His advice is basically the same as the other experts on the board.  Practice every day. Don't learn by association.  Association may get you through the test but it will limit you ability  to increase your speed.
I'm allowing a few months to learn the code.  I prefer the Koch method.
