I've read a bunch of the reviews, looked for Youtube videos, etc, but I can't find the answer to this.

My VX-6r  allows me to name memory groups, so for example, I have groups called "local", "regional" "MI-UP", etc, for different regions I frequently travel in, instead of using "BANK 0, BANK 1" etc for the name.

I can't find in the manual on either the FT-8800 or V71a whether the memory groups themselves can be named on these radio. Can anyone who owns either of these tell me if its possible?

Thanks,
H.

43 views and no responses? Are these the most un-owned transceivers out there?  Cheesy

I don't think you looked too hard: http://yaesu.com/downloadFile.cfm?FileID=824&FileCatID=149&FileName=FT%2D8800R%5FBrochure.pdf&FileContentType=application%2Fpdf

I don't see anywhere in that brochure where it says memory banks can be named.

I know the individual memories themselves can have alpha tags, but what I'm looking for is if either of these units have the same feature my VX-6r has, in which the actual memory banks can have a name too. With 200+ channels I have in my HT, I'm not going to know which ones are members of what, if I couldn't name the groups themselves. In some areas I travel, the same repeater freqs are used, but they may or may not have the same PL, and there is no way my brain is gonna keep that straight, which is why Yaesu added the ability to name memory groups in the HT. But neither the 8800r nor the V71a manuals say anything about it, and I know no one who has either radio.

The FT-8800 doesn't allow you to assign alphanumeric tags to 'banks' and the TM-V71 doesn't allow you to assign alphanumeric tags to 'groups'.
