If you want to work VK/ZL/JA,Oceana,the best bands by far are 15/17m about an hour before the band closes. Last night I worked T32C and 3D2R on 10m. And a ZL1. On 17m I worked T32C,and NH6XK. My antenna is an 80m dipole at low height fed with 450 ohm feedline. Had some help with qro too... The one country I never hear is BY. Maybe cause they run low power. But I can hear JA,HL,YB,UA0. Go figure!

The bands close depending upon your local sunset.  Figure an hour after sunset for 12 and 10 (my observation), then 2 hours for 15 meters.  Back when I started as a ham, it was really easy on 15 to tell when the band closed...DX stations just faded in about span of 15 minutes.  Now, not so cut and dry.

15 and lower, it has been varying quite a bit regarding band closing.  Worked 3D2R on 20 at 2330 local, and it seems like 20 is open around the clock to somewhere (it is cool to hear EU, Asia and VK/ZL all at the same time on 20 CW).
