I have an Icom IC-255A.  With the exception of PL tone capability this radio has served me extremely well but I've run into a problem.  It seems that my mic is no longer transmitting sound.  I am hoping that it's not the radio and just the mic that has stopped working.  The radio will still transmit a dead carrier.
My question is this...  When I bought the unit it came with an Icom IC-HM8 Mic.  I do not believe this is the correct mic for this radio.  Would anyone know if any 8 pin icom mic would work on this radio?  My research has shown that there do seem to be slight differences in the mics, depending on the model.

The correct microphone is an HM-10. The HM-8 has a built in preamp, and the 255A doesn't require one. That said, I suspect the real problem is the microphone cord, not the mic itself.

The mic has worked for years with this radio.  I ran a continuity test on the wire.  It seems intact.

According to Icom America themselves, the mic I want is the HM-7 or SM-5.  No luck finding either of them for sale so far.

I'm looking into the HM-36.  I'm pretty sure the channel operation in the mic
won't work but I can live with that if the mic works.  Anyone know if they are
wired for standard operation the same?

I guess Icom's techs don't read their own literature. The HM-7 fits the following radios: 245, 260, 290, 451, 490, 505, 560, 720, 730, 740. The HM-10 fits the following radios: 25A, 251A, 255A, 260, 290A/H, 451, 490, 730. By the way, the HM-10 is a dynamic, and the HM-8 is an electrec condenser type with an amplifier. I suspect that is why it works okay, when it works!
