Hello from K2CLH! I have asked in another forum what would be a good base station for $700-$1100 and I had a few people come back saying TS-480SAT or more commonly TS-570S or also common TS-570S(G). I know what the features of the TS-480SAT but I was wondering what the difference between the S(G) version and the straight S version? Any feedback would be appreciated.

73 thanks,
K2CLH

The difference is in DSP noise reduction and nothing else. Personally i have never seen a S that was not a G. Easiest way to tell them apart is G has 51 menu items, non G has 46 or 47. i own a 570D(G) and 480SAT. 480 has better noise reduction and better selectivity that 570 when splitting hairs but 570 is still a solid performer even today. You would not be disappointed with either rig. 570 tuner is a little broader than 480 and mine 570 will match a 5 to 1 but 480 will not.
