FW. Yes to all the above suggestions with one caveat in mind, you really need some type of disconnect  (automatic) between charging circuit and battery...
I have seen cheap battery chargers drain my battery when AC power to the charger was lost...
A simple relay could be wired to drop contacts when power from the charger is lost and prevent the charger from draining battery.
