For shortwave listening i use a Drake R8A, a Sony 2010, most of the time with many others that mostly sit on the shelf.

In order of preference:

JRC NRD 301A
JRC NRD 515
Drake R8
Drake R7A
Ten Tec RX340
Watkins Johnson 8718A/MFP

Then:

AOR 3030
ICOM R75
Eton E1
Panasonic RF-9000

I have a AOR AR7030+ inherited from my Uncle and a few home brew loop antennas. Works great.
