Getting the mic to work on a Yamaha CM500 headset

Just got a new Yamaha CM500 headset and I now notice that the mic plug is stereo, where my ProSet mic plug is mono.  The radio is a Kenwood TS-2000. Is that the reason the mic doesn't work on the Yamaha?  Can I get an adapter to make the stereo plug monaural and will that do the trick?  Thanks for any suggestions.  Will, AE6YB

It is an electret mic, requiring a voltage for it to operate. Goolge something like "computer headset TS2000" and you might find some info. Be careful, you can cause the smoke to release on the 5 or 8V regulator if not wired correctly.

NA4IT,  thanks for your reply.  The CM550 comes with a box that takes 2 AAA batteries for the electret mic.  This morning I rounded up an adapter to go from stereo to mono on the 1/8" plug that did the trick.  Thanks very much for your reply and the link.  73, Will
