This Malpelo DX-pedition is so much fun - I can only pray for a Navassa "announcement".

I was chatting about Navassa with my 2 meter local crew this weekend.....I was telling them that if and when it goes QRV, that I will be sitting back with my feet up on the desk laughing at the insanity (that some of you live for & what figures to be a billion times worse than for HK0) and admiring my KP1 cards from 1988 and 1992 qsos...(only 20 ssb and 80 ssb).....and maybe, I emphasize, MAYBE I will attempt to work it on other bands when the pending zoo thins out.....Maybe, that is!..... Roll Eyes Wink.........

If and when Navassa comes up, I'll be in there. If I'm still alive by then - even though I'm 65 this year, I figure it may not happen in my lifetime. Although stranger things have, like P5, ZA, BY, XZ, VU4 all coming on.

You're probably all tired of me saying that KP1 is my last country for #1 Honor Roll!

There was a rumor last year that it would be activated this year - so I've got my fingers crossed. If it is run like K5D and HK0NA, then "billions" will be served . . . .

G3RZP: Here's hoping they activate it soon and you snag it right away!

Desecheo was predicted to be an OH MY GOD
DXPedition too.
Didn't stop me from getting them on all bands
between 15 & 80m
 Multiple modes on each band.

Let's go Navassa !

And here is hoping that they have a short interval to LOTW.

Once active, KP1's pileups will be world-class deep, for sure, but from NA even a small amp and something more than a damp piece of string should have them in the log within a few minutes. Eastern Europe, JA/Asia will have a rough time of it but for us it'll be like fish in a barrel. Think of the legions of JAs that sat working BS7H all day long like nothing. Navassa will our BS7 when it's finally QRV.

Rich-

Only a passionate DXer with deep rock roots could work "Navassa" into a tune from the Easybeats!   Grin

I was a college DJ at WLHU - Lock Haven, PA - and know all kinds of weird Rock trivia - like how Vanda and Young formed "Flash in the Pan" in the late 70's, and also had influence on AC/DC and other Australian rock groups (as producers).

Its great that you can actually trace a bands lineage via Youtube and Wikipedia. Back in the day - it was Trouser Press and Rolling Stone for me. I also have a pretty good line on Jazz music and musicians . . . and Bluegrass.

I'm figuring Navassa  should be straight shot for me. Even if I haven't got the amp up and running, 100 watts to a 4 ele Steppir at 62 feet should cut it.

I missed it back in 92 or 93 - I was on a business trip. Came back on the last day, and just about to dive in when some jerk sideswiped a power pole and we had no power for 7 hours.....

As the man said, 'Sh*t happens'.

Rich--

Funny you should mention college radio...I jocked at Central Connecticut State University's WFCS 90.1 and later 97.9 (now 107.7 ?) FM in New Britain CT from '81-'85.  If only I could have scrounged up their vinyl that dated waay back to when they were a dorm reception only radio station......  The cool thing about college radio as I'm sure you'll agree, we got to hear some really good bands before thy went mainstream.  Not to mention change the spelling of their name ie Huang Chung became.... well you know...

I wish they would either activate it, or delist it.

So whats the official reason why it has not been activated?
It's under the control of Fish and Wildlife dept. so I guess somebody has made a request, so what was the response?   My Brother in law passed right near it in a Navy vessel right after the Haitan earthquake, he said it looked completely deserted.

It's not only political, but landing on Navassa is not exactly easy. If you want to read a great article about the 1972 operation of KC4DX, here you go:

http://69.89.25.185/~trexsoft/t-rexsoftware.com/kc4dx/

This was the operation I worked on 3 or 4 bands. The only other Navassa DX'pedition I worked was 6Y5NR/KP1 in 1985.
