So, without needing to fire up a remote rig (several miles away) just to hear if a band is open or not, is it feasible to have an SDR radio at my home control station to examine the band first? Seems that this would work. Any feedback??

Thanks much!

First, make it work, then make it pretty.

Dave,

Have you tried one of the WebSDR sites?  I listen to WebSDR de W4AZ. They are free and provide a nice panoramic display.

WebSDR works well, but I prefer GHPSDR3-Alex & QTRadio. It even allows for TX.
