Just like on the bands, some people are microphone shy.

A lot of people read this site for information, but don't post. Even active members may read a post and decide they don't have anything to add, or sometimes that it isn't clear what the poster is trying to ask in the first place. (A few of them may post anyway...)
I don't see anything wrong with having a post read 100 times and not responses - perhaps there are only two people on the whole site who know anything about the question. Or fewer. But especially if the post title is vague or general, a lot of people will at least view the post to see what it says.

Experienced forum users only reply when they have something useful to add to the discussion.

Might remember to make the topic TITLE something that catches the eye. You might have a great inquiry. But if it it entitled, "Need Assistance" - you'll wait for eons to get answers. Make the title specific, and you might get better responses.

One reason is few people might know the answer. If I asked you,"Where could I find the optional pl tone board for a Kenwood TR-2500 ht from 1985?" Or a manuel for an old Hallicrafters radio from 1950. By the way, what do people do with all the old manuels anyway?

You recently posted the same question in two different forums and got three answers, all of which are spot on and give you the answer you requested. How many more duplicate answers do you want?

I read many posts simply to learn new things, or get a better understanding on what I thought I knew.
Many times while I am doing something in my play room, I have a rig tuned into a QSO when I can hear both sides of the conversation.

Would you be happy with: Well, I don't know the answer but may be...? So if one does not know the solution people rather stay away after reading the post.

A Mexican undertaker could probably tell you. ;-)

There are people (none of them on this thread) who post the same question on three or four boards at the same time, and then attempt to play one answer off against another. Those are the ones I ignore.

I attribute the low ratio of responses to views to the overt bashing that goes on !

I can understand and appreciate that response. There is always at least one angry ham with excessive hubris responding to a post in a way that is less than helpful. I have found that using the "ask elmer" part of the Hamuniverse.com site is extremely helpful with a quick expert answer without the drama.

Its becuse #1, I can't work a fan dipole in to every subject and #2, I don't have time to answer ever forum question, even if I did know the answer to everything.. ( and he modestly blushes).
