I just saw these listings in the ARRL DX email:

CUBA, CO.  Luis, CO6LP will be QRV in the CQ 160-Meter SSB contest as a Single Op entry.

MEXICO, XE.  Look for XE1RCS to be QRV in the CQ 160-meter SSB contest.

Can every non-US station get free contest advertising?

Broadly speaking they are DX.

On the narrowest end of the spectrum, they aren't DX if they aren't in North Korea.

Ya, I know... it just sounds fishy when countries who always have stations on the air, and are not a challenge from the USA are conveniently listed in a DX bulletin right before a contest. By that logic all VE and JA stations could be listed...

I guess since I read the ARRL's email I have to enter as "assisted"  Tongue

Did it tell you exact time and frequency?  If not, then no.  (I know, I know....you're kidding....)

But by your logic then also no Caribbean or South American operations should ever receive pre-contest mention in a DX bulletin.  And NG3K might as well shut down his site.  And on and on and on......

Still, I imagine a European operator might possibly find the info useful.  (It's not just a W/VE contest)

At the other end... in the mornings its not unusual for me to hear pile-ups by Euro stations wanting to work the big contest stations in the Carribean, or in the evenings for me to hear the same Carribean contest stations running long long strings of JA's.

While those Carribean stations are easy picking for you or me, the fact that there are long lines of Euro/JA stations wanting to work them means that they are DX for somebody. I'd hate to think that the ARRL bulletin is only for US stations.

Sunday morning, when I wasn't at the rig for the DX SSB contest (headed out to church), I checked the cluster to see if 20M or 15M was opening up.  Noticed lots of East Coast stations spotting EU's.  And one anomoly... an Idaho station spotting EU's.  On second look, I noticed his spots were all for the same frequency... wow, I wish I was so lucky to get that many different countries in a row, in a contest, and all on the same frequency!

I'll be interested to see if he turns in his log, and if so, what category he claims.  Even "assisted", I thought self-spotting was against the rules in most contests?
