Wanna hear some CW not in the ham bands (well sometimes
the same station is on 10,126 and 3926) lsn on
alternate nights at 2300gmt  8009khz or 8135khz...he'll
be on one or the other...want more? try 10235khz,
8072khz (FDI8), 5945khz, 8043khz, 8132, 33, 34 (Hispanic) manual cw using bugs, 5302khz (cw numbers
sta) Except for the 8009, 8135 sta which is like
clock work ea. wkday eve the others are random...
4XZ has a wheel going all the time with hvy  tfc
most of the time...8BY sends short coded grps on
several hf freqs, lots of Russian, N. Korean, Chinese,
pt to pt, health and welfare (for fishing fleet and
merchant ships) and more. I could go on and on...
Upper 7mhz band vy early am, 12mhz during late pm.
A lot of  the cw is clandestine and the times and
freqs are random so it takes some  effort (and time)
Along with english mores theres Cyrillic, Hungul, Arabic and others.

OK there will be somebody that wants to challenge and
say well The U.S. does not use CW anymore...would
that somebody like to make me a bet for around 10k?

There has actually been an increase in CW on  HF
for  the last year. Along  with an increase in RATT,
and various pure digital modes, with some cw back up by the way. On 8043khz at times theres automated cw
coded grps that goes on for hrs starting in the early
eve. Mostly its RATT tho. Hate to burst your bubble
out there but theres more CW, RATT and pure  digital
than SSB on HF...Theres some Russian FSK CW, hoe many
of you have ever hrd that or even know what it is?

The bias against CW is mostly from guys who dont know
it, cant learn it (why?) dont appreciate the unique
qualities of CW, they tend to be knob twisters, lazy,
fat smelly hogs. An old saying goes "any dumb SOB can
speak into a mic" takes no training, smarts, effort,
or ability...anybody dispute that? listen on 80mtr
SSB. BWT, dont give a damn if you like what I just
said or not...I've paid my dues.  Grant that SSB is
an important part of the hobby...just dont knock my
part of the avocation...all Bell knows is a mic.

Art is a nice guy and he is entitled to his opinions, just as you are entitled to yours.  I don't know why Steve Katz would call him an "idiot".  Try listening to his radio show, Steve; it's not what you think. While I don't listen to it too often, I must admit that Art is a very skilled interviewer and his show is rather interesting, mostly due to the ingenious way Art interviews his guests. He's not dogmatic about his beliefs; he will listen to others' opinions and give them reasonable consideration.  And, listening to the CW bands, I can see why Art would think they are under-utilized.  Why is the League pushing to retain the present huge 150-to-250 kc. CW sub-bands at the same time they are trying to outlaw wide-band audio SSB?  The League is the problem, not Art Bell.

Who is Art Bell?Huh? Just because he professionally is a DJ (not a good one) will not make him an authority on CW. I listen to him and his cronies on 3.840 sometimes, "BORING!!!!"

Art Bell doesn't like CW therefore he would like it to die and go away. The fact of the matter is that CW is alive and well and will be here a lot longer than he will!

Art Bell might want me and 100s of other hams on his show.

It is 3+ years since Art declared code dead and almost 3 years since ITU amended their rules.  And yet, I keep hearing and having Morse code contacts on all HF bands, and occasionally on V/UHF.  Every now and then, I still call or answer CQ in that allegedly dead mode.

So if that mode is dead, I and those whom I contact must be either media (mediums, for those who put any credence in Bell's opinion)or time travelers. Maybe with some guidance from Art, we can figure out just what we are.  Or might it just be that we are hams--as opposed to others who occupy our spectrum, dead from the neck up, except for the part between the chin and nose?

Just because Bell and his little green men think cw is dead doesn't mean the rest of us do. Is that character still on the air? Thank God for the internet streaming radio at this QTH.

Art's a flaming weirdo. He's just making pronouncements like this to distract people from his "out with the old wife, in with the new" routine.

Art is still around...sort of.  His wife, Ramona, passed awau unexpectedly in February from an accute asthma attack while they were out in their RV.  Three weeks later, Art ran off to the Phillipines and married some lady in her early 20s.  Then he sold a lot of his stuff and moved down there.  He's in the process of trying to figure out how to install antennas in the 20 story condo building he lives in...he's on the 18th floor.

Art Bell has been wrong about a LOT of things.  Plus, he's living in the Philipines now with his new wife so he probably won't be doing much anymore on 3840.  However, he's soon to return to his weekend Coast to Coast show on his affiliates...but maybe he'll just stick to ghosts, UFO's and chupacabra's and won't talk much about ham radio!
