Good choice, Paul!  I only worked Darko on 20CW, and I know a lot of hams, particularly the left coast, did not get even one QSO. Good Luck, I know you guys will do a great job as you always have done before. 73 es gud DX,  de Gene AF3Y

Excellent. I have Somalia on only 1 band - so band fills will be great.

Same here. I need Somalia for a "new one". Quite a crew of well known operators on that team.

Great news!  I was wondering what the next dxpedition will be.  I need it as an all-time new one.

That's great to hear Paul. I tried to work Darko on his last DX'pedition there but I just couldn't get through. Hopefully I will have better luck this time Smiley

Great! Glad to hear there are guys that need Somalia for a new one!  We will work very hard to hit NA as best as we can. Darko was recently on a recon trip for us and he did a pretty good job. I was able to get a 20 CW contact with him. I was amazed that his 80 watt signal into a vertical made the trip!   We will be active for eight days and will do our best!

Thanks,

Paul...In 1994 I worked a fradulent station in Somalia....So I am very much in that new one category....It is one of only two AF countries I need to complete the mainland of the continent (the other being Eritrea)......I look forward to this endevor of yours as it is greatly appreciated...I only hope that the sunspots increase by then.......Congratulations, and as always, be safe......

Great News !!  The past DXPeditions have been really stellar operations.

I did notice on the Band Plan table that for 40M and 80M CW you list the transmit freq as 4 khz up from lower band edge.  While I endorse this and personally think that all big operations from 'most wanted' entities should consider this for the beginning of their operation (with a split of 1 to 5 up), then during the second half of the operation (or when there are no more callers) they can listen in the general class portion (above 25khz from lower band edge) OR the DXPedition can alternate days where they're at 7.004 up 1 to 5, then the following day at 7.024 up 1 to 5 (or whatever split condx warrant).

With the advent of instantaneous internet spots, if 603A is spotted on 7.024 listening up, then you have about 5 to 10 seconds before all hell breaks loose and there are hundreds of callers (and tuner-up'ers on 7.024) and if you're like me running compromise wire antennas, then good luck.  I tested this hypothesis (# of callers before a spot vs # of callers after the spot) several times during the recent HK0NA operation.  Granted, some relief is to be realized by 'average' DX'ers when the DXPedition sensing a horrendous pileup starts calling by Continent (EU only; JA only; etc.) or going "by the numbers" (or even both).

So as a veteran Co-Team Leader and operator, what's your take on this?

How does that work for DXCC accreditation?  I thought Somaliland was trying to become
automonous from Somalia?  Who issues the license?  Just curious.

We could not get Darko on any band/mode. Just bad timing i guess. But have managed to
work most of the little operations anywhere else. At any rate, it is great to hear that
QSX will be 4Kcs and up. Good to keep the QRO splatters from close in callers off.
The Rx antenna should help with a good shot on 80m/160m.
Good luck Paul and team.
