A "few db," using the directional properties of the vehicle, may make the difference between a successful contact or not being able to make contact. In an emergency, it could be a life saver!  Wink

But then again , having an antenna on the roof is much better than an antenna still in a bag in the house.  any antenna is better than no antenna at all.
