I worked 4M0ARV, Aves Island, on 2 different bands back in March of 1987.  I QSL’d to an address in Venezuela that was available through the DX info of that period, and never received any reply.  I left the hobby for other interests in ’91, and didn’t return until the fall of 2010.

In late 2011 I decided to get into the LOTW program, and spent weeks entering old logbook data into the computer.  It was then that I came across the Aves QSO’s and realized that it was the only DXCC entity I had worked during my first tour in the hobby that never got confirmed.  Through the QRZ.com site I found out that a stateside station had taken over qsl manager duties for that operation, so I immediately sent out a card direct with a sase included.

Unknown to me at the time was the fact that the requests to that station were actually forwarded to Venezuela, and required the normal green stamps for return postage,  I sent along another request later with the correct postage, and eventually I did get two 4M0ARV cards in the mail, 1 for each contact.  The contacts were made on 3/21 and 3/25 of ’87, and the cards arrived on 3/19/12, almost 25 years to the day.  I hope none of you have to wait that long for your new one.

And to YV5EED – Thanks Ramon

Wow!
4M0ARV was my first YV0 QSO. That has been a while back.

I bet that was a nice surprise!
