I have a dumb question. Has anyone replaced the 572b tubes with 4XC250s and is it worth the hassle.

GG in the normal way with 4CX250Bs is not an option. See http://ahars.com.au/documents/eimac01.pdf

So you would need a screen grid supply.

Well, if you ask me, I don't think your question is dumb at all.  But I do think your idea is dumb.  That is just my opinion.  hey, you asked. Cheesy

Keep in mind the fact that once you put a modification of this magnitude in a piece of commercial gear the "resale value" drops drastically regardless of the outcome. That aside, if you don't trust the 572 tubes that are available in today's market place-go for it! We are "Hams" and this is one of the things we do. I think the  GI-7 b or one of the other surplus Russian triodes might be a better choice for the mod. though. This being based on the availability, cost, amount of drive available, ability to run in "GG" operation, Power Output, NO screen or bias supplies required. Have fun-and learn by doing!! Good Luck. 73, Bunky, K4EJQ

Well it was a question that I had to ask. Now I need a set of tubes and replace the caps. Time for a complete rebuild.
Thanks for the replies.

Dear OM,

If I would think about a conversion it would end again like the one I did with a FL 2277 B
You can see pictures and some details on my website.

If you have any questions please send it to my e-mail address.
Enjoy the hobby and be careful with high voltage!
