Hi. I have just bought an ARB-704 and want to connect it to my yaesu 767gx. The manual states that i have to set the two jumpers inside to suit the 767gx.
This is the reply from MFJ (Ameritron)
Try it without changing the jumpers first. If you have already taken them out, set them to the second diagram on page 4 of the manual.
The ARB-704 jumpers on arrival are both jumpers set to the left . The setting the MFJ technicion is suggesting is the no 1 jumper to the right and the number 2 jumper to the left!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would not want to go down this road in case something smokes. As both suggestions are different. So can anyone advise which is the correct way to set the two jumpers. I have an Ameritron 811 Amp and a Ameritron PNP-8d connector cable.
Thanks for any help you can offer. 73 Tim

The easiest thing to do is to not use the ARB-704.  The 767gx amp-key output is a relay that can handle +30VDC open circuit and 2-amps ground to enable.  The 811 amplifier amp-key requirement is around +12VDC open circuit at 100ma ground to enable.  You don't need the ARB-704.

Hi Tim,
I don't understand why Ameritron instructions are so vague on this simple unit. I have used two of these on two different transceivers by checking the operator's manual and connecting them with success. I checked your manual and here is my view for your 767GX Yaesu.
Forget the din plug.
Use the connectors that come with the ARB 704 with phono plugs.
Read page 10 of your manual, and go into your menu and turn the relay on if it is not on now for item #4.
Run a supplied phono plugged cord from the phono terminal #4 on the back of your radio to the radio terminal of the ARB 704 phono terminal. Use another double ended phono plug supplied and plug one end into the 704 amp terminal and the other into your AL 811 phono jack that keys the amp.
If you want to connect the ALC run a connector straight from the amp to the radio. The arb 704 is a pass thru on alc and does nothing for it so a direct connection from the radio to the amp ALC is also correct .
Tim, let us know what you did about the 704 please.
I use a 12 volt wall mounted transformer for the power to the ARB 704.

Leave the jumpers alone as received from Ameritron, don't change them.

I would advise you to go to page 10 of your manual and verify what I have determined would be correct. Also perhaps someone else will look and advise you on this. Don't do this unless you agree. Just trying to help you since you have the ARB 704.
I don't use a 704 on my Kenwood 570DG to my AL 811 three tube Ameritron as my relay is OK for direct keying. I do use one on my AL 80 A and tiny little ICOM 7200. I think the interface is a good idea for many radios and won't hurt any radio.
Good luck and I understand your confusion from what I faced years back.

Frank
