Folks I have a Yaesu FT-101 EX and a D104 mike. I'd love to get this glowing properly again. It tunes up properly into a dummy load. When transmitting into the dummy and monitoring on my FT 450; it sounds like crap. Both were bought used from guys with good reputations but were not bought together. I know the issues to both items but my last radio repair was maybe 15yrs ago and I don't have the test gear needed to put the radio though the paces. I did check the wiring to insure the mike is wired correctly for this radio. It keys up fine but the output is very bad.

Soooooooo; that's the reason for my asking about this shop in Cartersville. It's just an hour trip for me. I also want to tweak and peak my FRS-7. It appears to be running perfect but if this shop is good I want to get it checked too. Thanks for any replies from those who may have used them. Greg KI4VQP.

If that's an amplified D-104, the built in preamplifier has way too much gain to drive SSB mode rig without distorting.

Turn the little screw potentiometer in the bottom of the mic on the preamp board all the way counterclockwise and then just barely "crack" it open.

Then use the controls on the radio for everything else.

Thanks for both replies. I work nights and usually 10, 12hr shifts in a row so my brain is too fried to check the reviews properly, thanks for pointing me to them. Looks like this shop walks on water.

I already tried the adjustment advised. the Fox Tango site got me as far as I can go on my own. I appreciate you taking the time to advise. Will be calling the shop in the next couple of days. Greg
