I'm a bit curious about this fellow. He's been on 14200 the past two nights, with a signal like SW broadcast. His antenna ain't too shabby either: http://home.earthlink.net/~cherokeehillfarm/id8.html

Does he talk to everybody, or does he have a particular "in crowd?"

Abdallah basically has a group of the same hams who work him every night.  I talked to him regularly for about a month but once the baseball season started I was no longer on when he signs on during his early morning. I think it's about 10 PM EST time and he's usually on for about an hour.

I found him to be very friendly but don't expect a long QSO as he has many friends and he keeps things moving.

Pretty much what NU1O said. He mainly just talks with the same 10 or so people. Always a good signal, and far better then anyone else in the region. He has a 20m monobander, dont know how much power he runs. QSL recieved quickly from his manager when I eventually snuck in a qso with him. Some days he will take some callers and ask for them, other days he will not. Seems like a nice guy, just talks with his friends mostly.

Ditto for what the other 2 said. But to add, ever so often he'll check for others who need 9K and give out report QSOs and then go back to the roundtable. That's how I worked him last year. Be patient and wait till a break in the table or he asks for callers. He's quick to QSL and an all around nice DX to work, or so it appears.

And yes, he has one heck of a signal all the time.

Yes, under the right conditions, you probably can. I worked 9K2GS here on rhe West coast using a 43' Vertical. I was running about 800 watts at the time but you have the right coast advantage Smiley

My first QSO with Abdallah was in June 2002 using only 100W and a low dipole. Log noted "very easy, 3 calls!"

I've worked Abdallah a few times, he always has a nice signal at night on 20m. As others mentioned, I think he works alot of the same people who stop in to say hello. I don't think he necessarily has an "in" crowd as he'll generally take calls from anyone. If I'm busy doing something else I'll often just tune in and listen. I've got one of his QSL's, nice quick turn around from his QSL manager.

I worked him last week with 100 watts and a G5RV up in an inverted vee configuration with the apex 40 ft high in a tree
It took many tries over the past weeks -- I hear him on often and he has a great sig.

His antenna helped me as much as it did him  Wink

With a G5RV and 100 Watts I think it actually helped you more.  Wink

Been working Abdullah for many years now....Always great to hear him on 20....it's how I know the band is open to the middle east, and gives me hope that some day I will finally work Bahrain, which I wish were on the air just a frequently as Abdullah is......

Dave A92IO is very active from Bahrain, he would be on some of the bands most days.

Be patient and time your calls...I've worked HZ and A9  QRP SSB on a single Delta Loop.
