If this keeps up  http://news.yahoo.com/china-says-navy-ship-hits-rocks-disputed-waters-095640996.html
perhaps they will destroy Scarborough reef, or at least the "habitable" rocks and it will HAVE to be deleted from the DXCC list Roll Eyes.

Or it will just become off limits more or less permanently and anyone who didn't get a QSO with BS7H in 2007 will have that hole forever in their DXCC record.

I guess one of the better outcomes we could hope for is that China gains control, drills for oil and the entity is either deleted because it is destroyed for oil exploration or some hams can operate from the oil platform which is attached to the rocks.

There is a growing list of such entities. Wait 10 years and they will be easy to work.

Since I have it on CW and SSB from 2007, I'm all for keeping it on the list in perpetuity.  Grin

There is no way an oil platform would count for DXCC since it wouldn't be able to be solely mounted to the rocks. In fact, it would be stupid for it to be mounted to the rocks.

Wasn't one BS7 expedition invalidated because the platforms touched water?

I must be missing something. Why do people constantly wish for this or that entity to be deleted? If it's on, work it. If it's not on, don't worry about it. What is the big deal?

I have arrived at that same conclusion. Of course, only entities that I don't have should be deleted. None of the one's that I have should be deleted.  Grin

Hey Pete,  I'll trade you TWO KH5Ks for one of your BS7H!

IMHO, BS7H is the craziest example of classifying any tiny above ASL reef as an DXCC Entity.

BS7H actually has more of a chance of being activated than KH5K.

Luckily I have (at least) BS7H.

You know, China very well may support a DXpedition to show that they own the entity.

Didn't the ARRL BoD have to vote to make it an entity?

It was in response to your question, "Why do people constantly wish for this or that entity to be deleted?"

And I'm explaining why.

I used to worry about why one entity is on the list or not - and now have dropped that (especially after talking to the group of people who activated KH5K last). I realized after hearing what they went through that it is what it is - you pretty much just have to accept it.

The fact is - there are SO many entities that only make sense if you understand the history of the DXCC program and what the thinking and rules were at the time - that if the program were completely consistent and logical - it wouldn't be fun at all. It would be sterile and easy and have no "lore" attached to it.

As much as I want HR - I would hate it if it were made "easy". In fact, I'd drop out of the chase altogether. For me - I'm OK with the "mystique" of why certain entities are on the list - and even the crazy ones.

On one level, awards are pretty silly anyway. The jouney is far more important.

I also think the DXAC is the governing body who determines what the list is - not the ARRL BOD - but not sure about that.
