Hey Pete, congratulations!  I am going to refrain from complaining about the USPS and the League and just ask a simple question.  What is involved in becoming a card checker?

It's not as easy as you think. Card checkers are appointed one of three ways. One is by a dedicated DX club with 25 or more members (in my case it was the North Jersey DX Association), the other is by a section manager and the third is by a division director. There can only be one from each source active at any one time and the appointments are essentially for life or until the checker chooses to step down.

Once you receive a nomination from one of these three your name goes up to Bill Moore in Newington. You will receive a copy of the current card checker rules and procedures and an open-book test to complete and send back. Once that's received, your application is forwarded to the Membership & Volunteer Programs Manager for final approval.

Pete--IRT...Good on ya for the Checker position....Good luck with that and enjoy!

Bill-LIX....FYI, The post office at South Hills Village has IRCs....they seem to be the only post office in our area that is on the ball...and they are open on Saturdays until 5pm....(or is it 4, not sure but they are open longer than the average weekend non cop/fire/ems "Public Servant" because they are in a mall).....Don't know what your transportation situation is or if you can get a family member to drive up this way for them, but I thought I'd just throw that info out there....

Congratulations!
I may take you up on your card checking sometime. I work only a few minutes from where you are, which will make it quite easy sometime.

That would be great. Just please email ahead of time and get all the paperwork done up first, then checking is trivially easy.
