I was wondering what mode of APRS could transmit from this location to AUS? Satellite? HF? I could not find the answer in the station information. Thanks.

Looks to me like he's transmitting on 30 meters:

(Raw packets from aprs.fi)
2012-08-26 17:26:33 UTC: VP8DEU>APRS,WIDE1-1,WIDE,qAS,K7MXE-4:/172625h/)!w(40oysd;_M/V Polar Bound

Then clicking on the digi K7MXE-4:

2012-09-05 04:05:29 UTC: K7MXE-4>APU25N,qAS,W4TTU-10:=4647.87N/12214.18W&Alder WA APRS 30m Gate

It appears that the internet is used to 'get' that signal to AUS.  Which is how/why "APRS.FI" works, internet.
