I picked up this nice little rig at a hamfest last Saturday. It came with the FP-757GX power supply. When I turn on the radio I here a fluttering like relay chatter that lasts about 3-5 seconds and then tapers off to nothing.  T/R relay? I have just done some listening so far and will hopefully do some transmit testing this weekend when I get to it.

Any ideas on this or other things I should look for on this radio? I am comign from an FT-101e so not having a preselector, plate and loading controls has me a bit confused as to what I need to do if anything to get ready to transmit.

Thanks,

Jeff

Does your rig have an automatic antenna tuner? If it does then you're just listening to the tuner initializing.

No I do not have the separate antenna tuner and the rig doesn't have one.

After opening it up I find the noise is being caused by the internal colling fan as it does an short spin up when the power is on. After transmitting a while it come son and rattles! I will have to dig up a new one!
