I'm toying with the idea of using an external keyer and a keyboard with my 817.  The K1EL CW Keyer is a very interesting device.

Now, the question....does the 817 use positive voltage or negative voltage for keying?  I've seaarched high and low across the web, and haven't as yet found the answer.

The K1EL keyer connects via the key jack and supports positive voltage keying only.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.  The eHam reviews on the keyer are interesting to read as is the website.

Positive keying. Like (almost?) every solid state rig made in the last 20 years.

The K1EL Winkeyer USB with high voltage option will key up to 300 volts positive or negative, no jumper changes required. The only rig it won't key is a spark gap.
