A terrible ground works OK on a Beverage, because the antenna is 400-500 ohms normally. Even a 100-150 ohm ground is OK on a Beverage.

A horrible one does not work on a Beverage.

That's a far cry from lightning or safety grounds, or grounds for Marconi transmitting antennas.
