I have a Yaesu FT-450 and was looking at trading radios, I was looking at trading it for a Icom 718. Would this be a good trade or should I hold on the the FT 450? I like the 718 due to being able to enter frequencies via the keypad. Can anyone give me their thoughts of both radios? All comments will be helpfull.

I have  had both Radio's and I got rid of the 718. being able to enter frequencies via the keypad is a nice feature however the 450 has many more features. IF DSP is one of the important one's. But like cars every one has their preference. I have an FT-2000 and use the FT-450 for my 6 meter operations.

I would keep the FT450 as well.  It is miles ahead of the Icom 718. Has built in DSP based filters, built in voice keyer, built in CW memory keyer, TCXO is standard, and covers 6m as well.  All of those things make it a much better value than the 718.  Being able to enter frequencies from the keypad would probably be the last thing on my list of features that would concern me radiowise.

I`d keep the `450. There`s a company that makes external keypads for rigs like the IC-706,FT 817/857,etc. Yaesu doesn`t make a mic that has a keypad for the `450? Maybe not. I`ve seen that company advertise on here, just can`t remember their name.

It is really more a matter of operate feel or interface here because even though 450 has IF DSP it is entry level and very limited in performance and does not have sharp skirts like a 590 and other better rigs. Use radio that feels and sounds best for you here as both are truly entry level radios and nothing more.
