I have been wondering lately if there is any way for me to find out when my call was first issued to me.  I know it was sometime around 1973/74 but I can't remember the date.  Does anyone know if there is any way to find out?

Thanks,
Mike

If you want to know approximately when, then you can use callbooks (like the NL7XM service mentioned). Callbooks don't list the actual date of issue of a call, but you can infer when the call was issued by noting that (for example) it's not listed in the Spring 73 book but it IS listed in Summer 73.

If you want to know exactly when (i.e., the actual date), then FCC records are the only option. Many of the old records are gone, lost when the FCC offices flooded. I'm not sure if 73-74 is still accessible. You can request a license verification letter from the FCC which will include issue date. The last information I have says you can contact the FCC at the address below to request one.

Just FYI, I had three upgrades in my first eight months as a ham. The last call sign is the ONLY one that made it into ANY CALLBOOK.

My call was originally issued to me in 1962 as a general.  WV2ROC was in 1961, also to me as a novice.

Your call is NOT listed in the Winter 1973-1974 Callbook.
