Pitcairn and Ducie in New Protected Marine Sanctuary?

I have no idea what this will mean for amateur radio access to Pitcairn and Ducie, but here is a very interesting story:

I think the UK Overseas designation is similar to President Bush adding several US Pacific Island "posessions" to the US Marine Monument.

The trend and opportunity to continue to activate entities in protected zones and "monuments" will be to team up with the ecological concerns and governments who protect these. The three DX-peditions listed above are prime examples of how this is done.

Pitcairn is an inhabited island with some local hams, so activity shall continure. However Ducie may become inaccessible to DX-peditions.

Pitcairn has a long established, permanent resident population so I would expect little impact to ham radio activities there.

Check out all of the entities that the group wants to put under a "No Take" status. Many more listed in the text of the article than even what are on that map.

I don't know exactly what the "No Take" phrase means, but this document seems to imply its mostly fishing:
