Liabilities are likely to be sought extensively.

More correctly, scapegoats will be sought because the real "crime" was letting them build where and how they did to begin with.

It happens EVERYWHERE!  Build in fire prone areas and not allow controlled burns because soot might get into the swimming pool.  Build on a barrier island and lament that the waves are washing away the sand.  Build in a river delta and pressure the Government to put protective dikes.  Build on a major earthquake fault and hope the big one doesn't happen.  Build on a volcanic island and - you get the picture by now.

It is about profit for those selling land and building, not about safety.

Build on a beach and ignore the chances of a hurricane, or even worse, an earthquake generated tidal wave!! (California)

I wonder when people are going to learn that hams, even those involved in EmComm, are NOT first responders.  AAMOF, they ARE ONLY SUPPOSED TO GET INVOLVED WHEN CALLED UPON!

Very likely there were reasons why the call out was not made--some of the people responding to this thread already put up some good ones.....
