PT0S antenna

The PT0S DXpedition will be using a yagi variation that I haven't seen before.   It is for 20/15/10 and
looks like vertical elements with radials.  The beauty of it is that it can be used at a low height. 
It will be interesting to see how it works for them.  AE5X has a write up on it in his blog:

Yeah,  after reading Tom Schillers book I see that the verticals by the sea rule !
For the PT0S location it may be just what the doctor ordered, I hope so, I need this for ATNO

It's really a yagi-vertical array hybrid.  It's called a GardenBeam: a tri-band vertically polarized parasitic array.  It looks like a cross between a vertical array and a traditional Yagi beam, but is definitely vertically polarized.  Vertically oriented Yagis do perform well from low heights (<5m), but at only higher freq (6M and greater).  This antenna uses a set of vertical elements and a set of horizontal dipole elements, which are sized similarly to the elements of a Yagi. They say that near-optimum mounting occurs only 9 to 10 feet above ground!!  Operation from an ocean side environment is the ideal setting for this antenna, not here in Winchester, VA.

The GardenBeam website says, "This results in a vertically polarized beam antenna that is well balanced and can be mounted at the center of its boom."

Could be something very interesting - even a break through in the use of rotatable vertical polarized antenna systems.

They were late departing, so starting on the 10th, I believe.  (Maybe tonite....!)

They've been on for a number of hours on 160M (their priority [along with 80M]) and racked up hundreds of top band QSOs.  A bit weak here in VA and noise is up too.
