I need a dummy load for my 900w 2 meter amp.  Been looking at the Bird 8201.  I see that it rated at 500w continuous.  Will this handle 900w SSB since it is a lower duty cycle?

500 watts continuous means "key down forever".  The Bird 8201 should EASILY handle the legal limit on a typical SSB duty cycle unless you transmit SSB into it for many hours.

It will handle it fine.

I use the same load quite often at >1kW PEP on VHF, and have been doing that since about 1978 or so -- hasn't failed yet. Wink

I have one.  Super dummy load.  I have pumped 3KW into mine for a two minutes continuous with only slight temp increase.
