Alpha Delta DX-DD

I all, I recently bought a Alpha Delta DX-DD and am using it as an
inverted "V"..Performance seemed good, then just the other day
things went crazy,My Heathkit DX-60A took out the 6146A tube.
For some reason or another I checked my coax feed line.. Took
an ohm reading from center pin to shield and had a dead short.
I thought hummm, So I took the whole antenna down and removed
the whole length of cable and found no short. So I checked resistance
across the two terminals where the two 41ft. arms go out. Dead short.
Now I was reading the instructions for the antenna itself, and it mentions
the SEP or static electricity protector. Is this what I am reading through?
Less than 1 ohm resistance??? Is this normal?

Yes it is, take it out and throw it away. I have the LB and did the same.

Sounds like you took a ZAP, from a static or nearby lightning event.

Model SEP Arc-Plug™ Static Electricity Protector is a special gas tube component designed to “bleed off” slow rising static electricity buildup of the kind generated by thunderstorms, high wind driven snow or sand or by a harmless looking cloudy day. These static charges have been measured to several thousand volts and can damage or destroy sensitive components in receiver or transceiver front end circuitry.

To remove the Model SEP Protector, simply remove the antenna connection hardware and remove the SEP which is installed in the cavity on the back of the Model DELTA-C Center Insulator. Reinstall the hardware in the same sequence as provided.

When using the DELTA-C for high power transmitting it may be neccessary to remove the SEP Cartridge when VSWR exceeds 2:1.
